Abstract
This study was designed to examine whether subjective age identification among the elderly is a moderating factor in the relationship between reminiscence function and life satisfaction. A total of 176 elderly participants, aged 65 years or older, answered a questionnaire including measures of reminiscence function, subjective age identification, and life satisfaction. Moderated multiple regression through simultaneous-entry method was employed for analysis using SPSS (PASW) 18.0 and PROCESS macro for SPSS. The results were as follows: Reminiscence function among the elderly significantly influenced life satisfaction and subjective age identification was found to have a moderating effect on the connection between the two. Subjective age identification showed the synergistic interactions of the three patterns of moderating: synergistic, buffering, and antagonistic. However, synergistic effect of subjective age on life satisfaction was not found among people who feel older than their actual age. Implications and suggestions for future studies are discussed.
